Captured on a Malibu beach in 1946, Joy depicts a 20-year-old Norma Jeane Baker. De Dienes first hired her as a model in 1945 and through the years their collaboration developed into a close personal relationship. The Malibu beach photographs offer an intimate portrait of the star before her image would become synonymous with Hollywood glamour.
