Drag Daughters by Michelle Sank in Zuid-Afrikahuis

Drag Daughters by award-winning South African photographer Michelle Sank is now on view at the Zuid-Afrikahuis, Amsterdam.

We are thrilled to see this special body of work exhibited at the Zuid-Afrikahuis, a historic cultural and academic centre dedicated to South African heritage.

Susan Coetzee-Van Rooy, Director of Zuid-Afrikahuis, opened the evening with a wonderful speach, follwed by an insightful Artist Talk and presentation by Michelle Sank.

The Drag Daughters series explores identity, belonging, and self-expression through intimate portraits of some of Cape Town’s most exquisite drag queens. Moving beyond spectacle and performance, Sank’s work highlights the pride and individuality. In a country still navigating the legacies of apartheid alongside ongoing social challenges, these images speak powerfully of visibility and change. Drag Daughters is a testament to the dynamic and evolving drag scene in South Africa, inviting us to appreciate and celebrate this vibrant facet of society.

Thank you everyone who joined us for the opening!

The show is on view until 7 July.
Opening Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | 10:00 – 16:00
