23 years in. Here's what's next.
Like you, we love photography. We love the vibrant and dynamic nature it enjoys. After almost a quarter-century in the business, we’ve been reflecting on how the photography has been evolving and adapting to remain exciting and relevant in today’s world.
New directions for Elliott Gallery
Over the past year, we have embarked on a new chapter for Elliott Gallery. We’ve observed how our world of photography is fundamentally evolving – and so are the ways people like you discover, collect, and engage with it. We’ve been working hard to adapt to these shifts by modernising and strengthening our own role as a sustainable and accessible platform for photography.
Taking into consideration the needs of collectors and artists alike, here’s what we have been working on.
A new Online Store
One of our most significant developments this year is the launch of our online store. A wide selection of works from our archive is now accessible beyond the gallery walls and is available to acquire from anywhere in the world. After a decade of working with various online platforms, we decided it was time to build our own. Taking everything we enjoy about browsing online and leaving behind what has always made buying art online more difficult than it should be. The result is a streamlined platform that welcomes you directly into our archive, with us on hand every step of the way.
We will be adding new works regularly; fresh releases, curated selections, and discoveries from across the collection, so there’s always a reason to come back. For those of you who know the collection well, it’s a chance to explore it in a new way. For those who have not yet visited us in person, it’s a great place to start. And if you see something you want to look at in more detail before it becomes yours, we are always happy to arrange that.
Quality conversations– by appointment
For those of you who have visited us over the years, and many of you have been coming for a very long time, you will notice one key change to how we work. We now welcome visitors by appointment. In practice this means more time, more focus, and a better conversation, whether you are exploring the current exhibition, discovering our collection of over 30 photographers for the first time, or looking for something specific. An accessible, informal space where you’ll always leave having learned something new – that has always been important to us, and it will not change. We love showing people around, cup of tea included. Get in touch at info@elliott.gallery and we’ll find a time that works for you.
Exhibitions with international reach
Our exhibitions programme is developing a stronger international reach, bringing the work of our represented photographers to new venues and new audiences in and beyond Amsterdam. While our gallery space remains our home base as a space for discovery and dialogue with photography, we have been deepening our collaborations with partner organisations and institutions worldwide. And we look forward to sharing more about them in the months ahead.
Coming up first is a major solo exhibition of entirely new work by Matthew Murray, Millstream Way: There Was Nothing We Couldn’t Do, opening at art quarter budapest, Hungary, in January 2027. Mark your calendars – we hope to see you there!
The Elliott Gallery Open Call
Our Open Call returns this autumn for its third edition. The first two rounds brought in an impressive range of work - from photographers just starting out to those with established international careers. So we’re looking forward to seeing what this round brings. In the meantime, discover the work of our second edition finalists online and visit the winner's exhibition at the gallery, on view until 16 May.
Consultancy, mentoring and portfolio reviews
We’ve also formalised two services that have always been part of what we do. Our art consultancy is open to private collectors and businesses looking to start or develop a collection with expert guidance. If you are not sure where to begin, that is the perfect place to start. We have helped countless individuals and companies make their first steps over the past two decades.
For photographers, mentoring and personalised portfolio reviews are available at every stage of their practice — emerging, mid-career, and established.
If you have ever sent a photographer our way, or wondered whether we might be able to help with a collection question. Now is a good time to ask!
As we open this new chapter, we are excited to share more news, as well as new projects and services, with you.
We look forward to welcoming you – online, in conversation, or in person at the gallery.
