John 'Hoppy' Hopkins
Hoppy is a British photographer whose work captures the spirit of 1960s London and the burgeoning music and counterculture scene. Educated at Cambridge University, Hoppy transitioned from physics to photography in 1960, documenting early rock icons such as The Stones and The Beatles, as well as the raw underbelly of London — tattoo parlours, bikers’ cafes, and the streets that defined a generation.
A founding figure of Britain’s first underground newspaper, the International Times, Hoppy was deeply involved in London’s psychedelic and countercultural movements. His influence extended across music, publishing, and nightlife, earning him the moniker “King of the Underground.”
