Henry Horenstein
Henry Horenstein is an American photographer, teacher, and author known for his compelling documentary work. A long-time Professor of Photography at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Horenstein studied under legendary photographers Harry Callahan, Aaron Siskind, and Minor White, developing a distinctive approach to composition and storytelling.
Horenstein’s work captures the overlooked, under-recognised, and working-class communities, offering intimate glimpses into life in the 1970s through series such as Honky Tonk and Speedway 72.
Horenstein has published over thirty books and produced documentary films, with his work included in international collections. His legacy is recognised alongside photography icons such as Dorothea Lange and Richard Avedon. Limited edition prints are available through Elliott Gallery.
