‘Ballade’ Added to Het Zuid-Afrikahuis Permanent Collection
Sanele and Sihle, Sea Point Pavilion, Cape Town, 2024
After a successful summer on view, Michelle Sank’s ‘Ballade’ has drawn to a close at Het Zuid-Afrikahuis.
The show concluded with a special highlight: Zuid-Afrikahuis’ acquisition of ‘Sanele and Sihle, Sea Point Pavilion, Cape Town, 2024’. Which is now part of their Collection and Archive, the photograph will remain on display at Het Zuid-Afrikahuis.
We asked Michelle for a few words about this photograph: “A couple I met at the pool, Sihle is seen wearing a traditional Zulu bracelet which is normally adorned soon after a traditional ceremony and stays worn until it deteriorates with time.”
For those who’d like to revisit the exhibition and hear more about the people and stories behind ‘Ballade’, the recording of the talk is available here:
It was a pleasure to collaborate with Zuid-Afrikahuis on presenting ‘Ballade’, and we’re delighted that this work will remain part of their fabulous collection!
