British photographer Marcus Davies is best known for his distinctive black and white images, which are an oblique interpretation principally, of the ‘figure’ in both cityscape and landscape in the world around him.
For the last decade Davies has travelled throughout European cities, capturing scenes from his own characteristic viewpoint and with his unique style. In dramatic contrast, this exhibition however will showcase his ‘Animals’ series, which through his trademark high contrast of black and white and exquisite hand printing are beautiful and witty through their seeming simplicity.
Davies excludes unnecessary detail from his images still further in his ongoing series of minimal animal portraits, from bears, piglets, cows, and elephants to monkeys, dogs, gnus and tigers. His highly abstract and graphic images reveal figures caught in a play of light and shade, positive and negative.
Davies has exhibited widely in the UK and his work is represented in many key collections including Merrill Lynch, Citibank, New York & London, The Victoria & Albert Museum and The Saatchi Collection, London.
Davies also hand prints and binds his own elegantly produced series of limited edition art books, which are also for sale.
