Ian Macdonald (b. 1946) is a British photographer internationally recognised for his powerful documentation of Teesside in Northeast England. Since 1968, Macdonald has photographed the region’s industrial landscapes and working communities with honesty and deep personal connection. His portraits of shipwrights, blast-furnace workers, and river pilots stand as dignified records of a changing industrial heritage.
Macdonald’s work is held in major public and private collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Danish Royal Library.
