Jasmine Karimova's 'Mesoglea' - a video directed and edited by Annelie Bruijn & Barnaby Irish

Artists Annelie Bruijn and Barnaby Irish co-created the new music video ‘Mesoglea’ together with the musician and creative jack-of-all-trades Jasmine Karimova. In a mesmerising and dreamy layering of images, we see the artist floating in and flowing through water, slowly being submerged by coloured patterns. ‘Mesoglea’ is the tissue—largely composed out of water—that functions as the internal skeleton of jellyfish.

The project blends the iconic styles of both Bruijn and Irish into a meditative symbiosis—together, the double exposures of Bruijn and the microscopic cyanotype patterns of Irish create a surreal and intimate film.

The work of Annelie Bruijn and Barnaby Irish was shown at Elliott Gallery in the joint exhibition ‘Licht Gevoelig / Light Sensitive’ in 2019.
